5 things every personal brand needs to have

Working on your personal brand at times can be hard and intimidating, however , in today’s world, people- brands are what we are looking for, and having a tailored personal brand identity is a great asset for any person and for any profession. Here are a few things that you might want to know if you plan to work on your personal brand.

Clear goal 

We all start with a piece of paper and a pencil. Write down what you want to achieve , how you want people to perceive you. Are you a very talented designer that wants more potential clients to discover? are you a rising blogger that wants to create great content? Maybe you are a writer that wants to gain publicity. Remember, anything can be promoted, any brand can be built- provided that you are clear and sincere with yourself on what you want. 

What I do for my clients 

  • go to them with a questionnaire , asking them myriad questions  – that will help us define their goal
  • prepare a map of needs that the potential target audience will have and how we are going to fulfill them 

Clear Target Audience

Yes you need to know exactly who you want to engage in your social media and offline activities. 

Please note, that it is nearly impossible  to target larger public – the more specific  your niche – the better the results will be.

What I do for my clients 

  • Filtering by age/gender and occupation 
  • based on the point 2 – selecting the best working media for them. Even if they think that they should do something trendy – I will make sure to talk them out of the idea, if it will not provide the results we need. 
  • then I go finding the places that those people hangout, the news media they are reading and the celebrities that they follow 

Too easy huh?

Social  Media Presence

Yes, it is important. Very important. However, you as a personal brand do not need to be on all possible SM Platforms. based on your research at point 1, you can surely identify where your target audience is more present, and be consistent in those few media. 

What I do for my clients

Starting slow- take one, master that one, then gradually add more. It is indeed impossible and not so much effective to take all the possible social media platforms and tray to exceed in all of them. If you are a businessman, you may think about LinkedIn, then adding instagram or Facebook. If you are a blogger, instagram and tiktok might be your go – to social media platforms.

Strategy

I think it could have been better if I put this on the first place, because without solid strategy you will not go far. If you wake up and feel like filming 13 videos now and posting them all at once – well, not a good idea.
Planning your content in advance is the key to your success. 

Better have 1 post a week, but consistently, than 123 now, and silence for the coming months. 

Dedication 

If you plan to start – you should plan to keep going, Remember, it will be very hard to resume once you have started and gave up. So start your personal branding efforts only when you are truly ready. 

Please remember, that Personal branding in not only about posting good content on your social media pages – it is about you becoming the “brand” you want people to see. And that will include networking, meetings, conferences, talks and many more activities than just positing on social media every once in a while. 

Final thoughts 

Working on your personal brand is a hard task. You will not always succeed ,and yes, you will not succeed immediately. Be prepared for a long journey, and if all done right – it IS going to be rewarding.
